Arcata Preschool Staff

The program is staffed by teachers with the appropriate Children Center Permits and/or have educational preparation in early childhood development. Support staff consists of Aides, Speech Therapist, and Specialist in Dance/Music/Art, along with office, custodial, and food service staff.

Meet The Teachers!

Sara Morgan- Child Development Specialist ([email protected])

(Site Supervisor, Teacher)

Sara graduated from Humboldt State University with a degree in Elementary Education and an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. She currently holds a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and a Site Supervisor Children Center Permit. She have been teaching for over 20 years and has taught 6th grade through preschool. Her absolute favorite group to teach is preschool!

She the mother of 3 children. She can be found playing music in the Crab Grass Band and the Marching Lumberjacks. Sara believes children learn from integrative hands-on curriculum and social skills development.

Alice- Child Development Assistant Specialist

(Assistant Site Supervisor, Teacher)

Alice joined our preschool team in January 2022. Alice grew up in Humboldt County and went to school in Arcata. She received her BA from Humboldt State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She has taught preschool for multiple years and is excited to take on a supervisory role.

Jessica - Child Development Aide

Jessica has volunteered for a few years in after school programs and preschools, then began taking Early Childhood Education courses at College Of The Redwoods! She has been working for the Arcata Preschool for over 5 years. Jessica looks forward to building new and lasting bonds with each and every student!

Melanie Dawson-Director of Extended Day Services

Mel is the supervisor of the preschool and after school/camp programs. She has a degree in Child Development and loves getting to interact with so many different children and families. Although most of her work consists of office time, she may be seen working with and playing with the children as well.

Support staff consists of Specialist in Dance, Music Teacher, Buddies teacher, along with office, custodian. maintenance and food service.
